03. The Breaking News!

February 2011, she told me that she has missed her periods, and she felt as if something was different. We went to our doctor on 16th. She broke the news and congratulated us. We can’t tell how happy we were. Our life has already changed.

One day, when you are least expecting, you wife is going to break the news you two have been waiting for so long. The blue lines are going to change your life forever. Your wife has been cautious every moment looking for signs; she has been looking forward to missing her periods. Every single sign had made her happy, and every period had made her sad. Now, when her pregnancy test is positive, she is bound to be over the moon. It is a feeling we men will never understand, but we can at least appreciate it. We are happy and we express our feelings in our own way.

We (men) have been comfortable in our life so far; now that our life is going to change we are supposed to be a bit nervous. Thoughts like if your baby is going to be healthy, if you are going to be a good dad, will you have enough money, is your wife going to change, what about all the parties and night outs, and what about sex, might make you crazy. Don’t worry, you are not being abnormal, you are just being a man.

Worrying about your baby’s health, being concern about being a good father, only means that you love your baby. Yes, your wife is going to become crazy and fat, but don’t worry you will get her, and your sex, back. Remember the hormones are playing haywire with her emotions. It is she who is carrying the baby for 9months, and all the pains associated with it. At the end it is she who has to push that big thing out of a small hole. You are lucky that you are not pregnant, respect that. You will slowly settle down and realize that you life is going to change for good…ours did.

The next nine months were amazing, we heard her heart beat for the first time, we felt her move for the first time, and we saw her face during USG for the first time. We felt like we were in love with each other all over again.

  10. When I found out I was pregnant with Mica, I knew I was pregnant already. My body just said so. I missed a period, my breasts were sore, I kept getting dizzy like I was going to faint.

One time I over did a walk, came home, went to take a shower and everything went black. I woke up scared to death and shaking! All was ok though.

For some reason with Mica I felt faint all the time!

He was a breech baby, I was low on fluid and he was long. They tried to turn him from the outside, but he was stubborn. My thoughts of having a normal, vaginal birth changed. C-section he was. The C-section hurt less then them trying to turn him.

Then with Isaak all was different. I missed a period, my breasts hurt, I thought I was pregnant, I took a test and it came back negative. :(

It wasn't until a month later that I took a test and it was positive. I would have thought it was a miss-carriage. Really could someone have a miss-carriage and get pregnant so fast? No way. It was very odd!

I was never dizzy with Isaak. :)

  27. Hey Sub, saw the link you posted to this blog on my post comment, and had to come check it out, and I'm glad I did, just loved this post, daughters are daddies darlings, you will love this journey of being a father, it will show you aspects of yourself you never knew existed... :-)

Just one bone to pick...I don't think men are lucky that they aren't pregnant, for me it's women who are the lucky ones, who get to experience that unique bond with their child, that no man ever can, trust me, if anyone's unlucky here, it's the man... ;-)

I have gone through this feeling - exactly the same... I also couldn't understand, I also appreciated and I also expressed my feelings in my own way. But, I am sure I wouldn't have appreciated or expressed (even in my own way) at times. Let me apologize to her for that tonight. :(

  41. Congratulations!! Yes the feeling around the first pregnancy is almost like magic!! Every woman I thought remembered it - it is touching to know that men do too!! The feeling of uncertainty, hope, dreams fears all together .. I dont know if it is beautiful or worrying. There is a beautiful song from the film "Anand Ashram" with Uttam Kumar and Sharmila which I think best portrays some of these feelings. All the best - remember this is the nice part... once the baby is here you will be enslaved LOL!
